The management of SHEQ & Beyond thinks that no one seeking our services gets up in the morning saying, “How can I get shoddy goods out to my customers today? Whom can we hurt today? How can we destroy the environment today?” Therefore they already have a Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety system. Our job is to document the existing system and add the bits that they need to meet the requirements of international standards for customers that want listing. We change the client’s working work practices as little as possible, and only where the change is beneficial.

Mike Morrison of SHEQ and Beyond has forty plus years experience in Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety systems, including installing the England and Wales’ Law Society’s Lexcel (excellence in legal practice management and client care) quality system for the St George’s University of London’s internal legal department.

Some customers implement one management system first and then build the other management systems on top of the first system. Many of the procedures are common across systems. This way you only have one management system. This system is often referred to as a SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality) management system. Some companies include “Risk” to make a SHEQR management system. The Risk component is probably not needed as a separate module any more, as Risk is now included in the latest version of the Quality System, ISO 9001.

Below is a diagram of a basic SHEQ System.  This basic system provides all the benefits of a management system.  There are other procedures that are needed to meet international standards such as ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety).
